Matzo “Sausage” For Passover

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a recipe here.

I’ve been busy publishing 2 children’s books on Amazon and teaching cooking classes.

That’s a lot of work for one person but I’m not complaining.

Today’s recipe is all about Passover: How to create an easy and delicious treat when you can’t use flour/cookies etc.

When I was a little girl we used to spread a chocolate-flavored (means, not a real chocolate :-p) spread over a matzo, and felt like it was heaven on earth.

I tried to create the same experience in a slightly different way – cover the Matzo with a real chocolate and other good stuff, and freeze it. I also used some Craisins to give it a little kick.

Ready? lets get cooking ๐Ÿ™‚


1. Four plain Matzos.

2. Half a cup Craisins (dried cranberries).

3. One cup real chocolate chips.

4. One butter stick.

5. Half a cup milk.

6. A pinch of salt.

7. One teaspoon vanilla extract.

Step By Step:

1. Melt together chocolate, butter, milk, salt and vanilla extract.

2. Break Matzo into small pieces.

4. Add Craisins to the Matzo and mix.

5. Pour the melted chocolate over the Matzo-Craisins and stir.

6. Wrap with a plastic wrap creating a “sausage”.

7. Freeze for at least 1 hours.

8. Slice and serve.

Recipe tips:

You can switch the Craisins with any other dried fruit that you like.

“Sparkly Me” – A Recipe For Happiness

Well maybe it has something to do with cooking after all…

Hot Chocolate Milk Anyone?

Some days you wake up and feel like you need something to cheer yourself up.

It might be the drizzly-gloomy weather, a dream you had or no particular reason.

You just need to cheer yourself up, that’s all.

This morning I woke up with that feeling.

What should I do now? I asked my self. – Hot-chocolate-milk was the answer.

1. One teaspoon real cocoa powder

2. Two teaspoons sugar

3. One cup milk

4. Quarter teaspoon vanilla extract

Step By Step:

1. mix cocoa powder, sugar, milk and vanilla extract in a pot. Bring to a boil while constantly stirring.

2. Pour into a mug and drink.

Recipe tips:

If you still have cocoa powder lumps after boiling, strain before drinking.

Have you ever heard the phrase “please don’t play with your food”?

Well – I don’t get it!

I love food, I love playing, and combining both of them make it so much better.

Today I will give you an idea rather than a recipe. I will stick with the classic P&J sandwich.

Ready to play? well, lets get cooking ๐Ÿ™‚


1. Whole wheat bread

2. Peanut butter

3. Jelly

Step By Step:

1. Make the sandwich

2. use cookie cutter to cut a shape in the middle

3. cut the sandwich edges into small pieces to create a “jigsaw puzzle”

Recipe tips:

Use any spread you like (cream cheese, Nutella, almond butter etc.) to make the sandwich. Any other cookie cutter shape would do the work as well.

Jelly Donuts

4 cups bread flour

2 tbs active dry yeast

ยฝ cup sugar

1 butter stick (soft)

ยผ tsp salt

3 egg yolks

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp lemon zest

8-10 oz warm water


Confection sugar


  • In the mixer bowl mix flour and active dry yeast
  • Separate the eggs, Soften the butter, zest the lemon
  • In a small bowl mix egg yolks, vanilla extract, sugar, Lemon zest and salt

Add the egg yolk mixture + butter + most of the water to the flour bowl . Using the hook attachment, combine the ingredients on low speed until flour is incorporated and then turn the speed up to medium and knead until well combined. Add the remaining water if needed. knead for about 4 minutes, until the dough pulls away from the bowl and becomes smooth.

On a well-floured surface knead the dough creating a smooth ball. place back in the mixer bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and cut into tennis ball size pieces .

Roll the dough with your palm until a smooth ball is created and set aside to rise for about half an hour.

Transfer the risen doughnuts to a heavy pot filled 3-inches high with vegetable oil at 350 degrees.

Fry the doughnuts, a few at a time (When frying the first side cover the pot ) until golden and puffed.

Turn after about 2.5 minutes and keep frying the other side for about the same time. Total frying time 5-6 minutes.

Lift the doughnuts from the oil using a slotted spoon and place over a plate covered with paper towel to absorb any oil access.

Let cool slightly and fill a pastry bag, fitted with a 1/2-inch round tip with jelly preserves. Insert the tip into the end of each doughnut and pipe approximately 1 to 2 teaspoons preserves into them.

Sprinkle powdered sugar on top of the doughnuts and serve.

Quick & Easy Donuts

Hanukkah is my favorite holiday. It’s a celebration of lights and greasy food: Latkes (potato pancakes), donuts (Sufganiyot) and basically any kind ofย  food you can fry. It’s the only time of the year I allow my self to enjoy this kind of greasiness…

It usually takes a long time and hard work to make “real’ jelly donuts. This year I decided to take the fast track to heaven with cinnamon-sugar quick donuts.

Don’t forget to to keep the oil-related safety rules and lets get cooking ๐Ÿ™‚


1. One cup sour cream

2. One egg

3. Two spoons of sugar
4. One teaspoon vanilla extract

5. Third cup of milk

6. One cup all purpose flour

7. One teaspoon baking powder

8. Quarter teaspoon cinnamon

9. Half a cup sugar

Step By Step:

1. Heat up the oil (medium heat)

2. mix together sour cream, milk, egg, sugar and vanilla extract

3. Mix flower and baking powder

4. Combine sour cream mixture with the flour and baking powder

5. Scoop the batter and fry for about 5 minutes

6. Mix sugar and cinnamon and roll the donuts in it until coated

Recipe tips:

The easiest way to scoop the batter is to use a medium ice cream scoop. if you don’t have one use a regular spoon to scoop and your finger to push the batter down into the oil.

Shortcrust Pastry Or The Easiest Cookie Dough

Parents always ask me for a good cookie dough recipe and I always give them the same basic one. Usually I use the food processor to mix the ingredients just because it’s easier and less messy, but today I will show you how to mix it by hand. your kids would love to touch and feel the different textures of the ingredients.

Just remember to wash your hands before mixing, and lets get cooking ๐Ÿ™‚


1. Two butter sticks

2. Half a cup sugar

3. Two cups all purpose flour

4. Half a teaspoon baking powder

5. One teaspoon vanilla extract

6. One egg

Step By Step:

1. Mix butter and sugar

2. Add egg, vanilla extract, flour and baking powder and mix until well combined

3. Wrap with plastic wrap

4. Refrigerate for one hour
